Free & Reduced Conciergerie Tickets

Under-18s, EU residents 18–25, jobseekers, large-family card holders and one companion per disabled visitor — they all enter free or at reduced price. Plus the first Sunday of every month from November to March is free for everyone. Here's exactly who qualifies, what to bring, and how to book the right ticket type.

The Conciergerie, like all Centre des monuments nationaux sites, has a generous free-entry policy for under-18s, young EU residents and a few discount categories beyond. It also participates in the French premier dimanche du mois programme — free entry to the public on the first Sunday of every month from November to March. See our visitors guide and accessibility page for related information.

Who qualifies

Who enters free

    • Under-18s: Free for everyone, every day. ID may be requested at the entrance.
    • EU residents aged 18–25: Free with valid ID showing EU residency (passport, national ID card or residence permit).
    • Jobseekers: Free with a recent (within 6 months) attestation Pôle Emploi or equivalent EU document.
    • Disabled visitors and one companion: Both free of charge — bring the relevant card (CMI, COTOREP or equivalent EU document).
    • CMN Pass holders: Free unlimited entry as part of the €45/year membership.
    • Teachers in active service: Free with a valid Pass Éducation.
    • First Sunday of the month, November to March: Free for everyone, no booking needed (but expect long queues).

Who gets a discount

Reduced rate (€11.50): Holders of a French carte famille nombreuse (large family card) and a few other categories listed on the CMN site. The Conciergerie does not offer a general student discount beyond the EU 18–25 free entry above.

How to claim a free or reduced ticket

Under-18s and EU 18–25: book a free timed-entry ticket online — it's in the same flow as the paying tickets, you just choose €0 for the eligible visitor. Bring an ID document with date of birth and EU residency on the day.

Jobseekers and large-family holders: book the appropriate ticket type and bring the relevant document at the entrance. Without proof you'll be asked to upgrade to the full-price ticket on the spot.

Disabled visitors and companions: book the disabled visitor's ticket first; the companion ticket is added automatically at no extra charge during checkout.

First Sunday of the month (Nov–Mar): no advance booking required — turn up and queue. Expect a 30–45 minute wait, longer in mid-morning.

Bring proof: ID with date of birth for under-18s and EU 18–25, the relevant card or pass for everyone else. Staff at the entrance check thoroughly — having proof on you avoids any awkward conversations.

Free & Reduced FAQ

Eligibility, documents, and edge cases

Do under-18s really enter free?
Yes. A free timed-entry ticket is still required — book it in the same order as paying adults. ID with date of birth may be requested at the entrance.
Are EU citizens 18–25 free?
Yes — anyone with EU residency (not just EU citizenship) aged 18–25 enters free with valid ID. Non-EU residents in the same age range pay the full €13 or the reduced €11.50 if they qualify on other grounds.
Are there free Sundays?
Yes — the first Sunday of every month from November to March is free for everyone, with no advance booking. From April to October the free-Sunday programme does not apply.
Do students get a discount?
EU residents aged 18–25 enter free regardless of student status. Beyond that, there is no general student discount at the Conciergerie.
Can carers enter free?
Yes — one companion of a disabled visitor is admitted free. See our accessibility page.
Is there a family ticket?
No single family ticket is needed — under-18s are free, so you only pay for the adults in the group. Large-family card holders also pay the reduced €11.50.
What if I forget my CMN Pass at home?
Show your booking and ID at the information desk — staff can verify your CMN account in the system and let you in.
Are teachers free?
Teachers in active service in France are free with a valid Pass Éducation. Teachers leading school groups also enter free as part of the group booking.
